Dear ,

Thanks for signing up to the Backup Exec FAQ newsletter.

Recent Site News

The previous newsletter mentioned that the site had polls. The first poll ran for a month, and asked what version of Backup Exec respondents were using. The results of 87 votes were:

  1. 68% - 11d
  2. 26% - 10d
  3. 5% - 9.x
  4. 1% - 10.0

I won't attempt to draw any conclusions, but it could be that most (two thirds) of users keep up-to-date with their software, or it could be that users of 11d go looking for help more than users of previous versions! Interestingly there were no responses of "Other", when it's obvious from some forums that there are users on 8.x still. Perhaps they never encounter problems?

The next poll has been opened, and asks how much data you protect with Backup Exec. All responses are anonymous, and used for nothing other than interest. You'll find the poll at the bottom of every page.

Recent Backup Exec Developments

In the last few days Symantec has released Service Pack 2 for Backup Exec 11d build 7170. This is simply a collection of hotfixes up to and including hotfix 30. However if you search for Hotfix 30 (for build 7170) as a standalone hotfix it doesn't appear to exist. Whether this is simply an error, or SP2 does include an additional hotfix is unknown.

Note that there has not been a Service Pack release for build 6235. This is perhaps the most obvious sign that Symantec would prefer us to be on build 7170. 7170 contains additional functionality compared to 6235, but it might be understandable if people are reluctant to make changes to a working setup.

At the same time as the release of SP2, an updated Device Driver Installer has been released. This contains support for additional NDMP devices.
