Recent Backup Exec Developments

Since the last newsletter there have been some important Backup Exec updates. These are:

•  A security update to fix potential vulnerabilities in Backup Exec 10.x and 11d. The links to the hotfixes can be found here.
•  Support for Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007. This requires  Hotfix 6 for Backup Exec 11d Build 7170. Previous versions and builds don't get MOSS 2007 support.
• An update for the Desktop/Laptop Option.

In addition to the software updates, Symantec have announced a free 30 day trial of the Backup Exec Tech Center. Instructions on how to get the trial are at http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/289722.htm. Hopefully you will have more luck signing up than I did! (Symantec's site gives me an error saying I'm the wrong customer type!)

Hint Of The Month

If you use the Symantec Support Forums you may be frustrated by not staying logged on for very long. To work around this:

1. Go to the forums and log in.
2. Open any thread, and click the reply button. Don't post a reply.
3. Open a second window. You should already be logged in.
4. As long as you leave the first window open, you should remain logged in, even if you are inactive for a long period.
