Backup Exec 12.5 announced

Symantec yesterday announced version 12.5 of Backup Exec.

Improvements over version 12 can be summarised as:

• Changes to licensing agents for virtual servers. Now if you have 30 virtual servers running on a VMware instance, instead of needing 30 remote agent licenses a single license will suffice.
• Automatic setup and configuration of VMware Consolidated Backup.
• Granular recovery of virtual server backups.
• New Infrastructure Manager to manage upgrade and patch management of Backup Exec installations.
• Support for Windows Small Business Server 2008, Windows Essential Business Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008.

Backup Exec 12.5 will be available on October 6th 2008.
