Dear ,
Thanks for signing up to the Backup Exec FAQ newsletter.
It's been (just over a month) since the last newsletter - a month with plenty of changes for Backup Exec.
Recent Backup Exec Developments
Since the last newsletter Backup Exec 12 has been released. There have also been three hotfixes for Backup Exec 12, affecting database backups where "Working set" is used, duplicate jobs, and a security vulnerability. There have also been four hotfixes for Backup Exec (including Build 6235, for those still running that).
Backup Exec 12 seems to be getting a fairly warm reception in the Symantec forums. The removal of limitations concerning GRT backups seems popular. Remember that if you have a support contract for Backup Exec, you can upgrade to Backup Exec 12.
Recent Site Developments
The poll concerning your upgrade plans for Backup Exec 12 is now closed. There seemed to be a fairly even mix of results from people upgrading immediately upon release to people saying they would never upgrade. The next poll is open, and asks how many physical servers you protect with Backup Exec. The poll can be found at the bottom of any page on the site.
In the last newsletter I commented that the site layout may change. At the moment this plan is still on hold, as testing has shown that upgrading from Joomla! 1.0 to Joomla! 1.5 will break many links. A proposed change is to remove the article comments, as they are a bit awkward to use, and have started to attract spam. Instead I have toyed with the idea of having a Backup Exec FAQ forum. I'd rejected this idea in the past, but it has been mentioned by more than one user. I'd love to hear your feedback on this, or any other ideas you may have for the site. You can get in contact by logging in to the site, and using the "Get in Contact" link from the "Contribute" page.
Thanks for trusting me with your email. I hope you found this newsletter useful.
