There are various options available for BE to add more functionality. This page summarises what the options do. Agents are not included in this list.
 Advanced Open File Option
What does it do?This option allows you to backup files that are locked and in use. Do you need it?Only if you need to back up files that are in use, eg. a database for which no agent is available, or if users frequently have files open during backups.  Library Expansion option
What does it do?Out of the box, BE allows you to use unlimited standalone tape drives, or one autoloader containing one tape drive. This option allows you to use multiple autoloaders, or autoloaders with more than one tape drive. Do you need it?If your autoloader has more than one tape drive, or you want to use more than one autoloader, you need this option  SAN Shared Storage Option
What does it do?Allows you to share a tape drive between multiple BE media servers Do you need it?Only if you have multiple media servers, your tape library is on your SAN, and you know what you're doing.  Intelligent Disaster Recovery
What does it do?Creates bootable startup disks with information to restore straight from a backup, without having to reinstall the OS and BE first. Works on similar hardware only. Do you need it?Only if you want to speed up recovery to similar hardware, and can test your backups - IDR is a common cause of problems. What does it do?Allows desktops and laptops to back themselves up, and users to restore their own files. Do you need it?If you want to provide protection for user data, or users don't save their data to the server.  Central Admin Server Option
What does it do?Allows multiple BE media servers to be managed collectively, and backups to be distibuted between servers. Do you need it?If you have multiple BE servers, it's beneficial.  Advanced Disk-based Backup Option
What does it do?Enables synthetic backup functionality, to speed up backups, and enables off-host backups. Do you need it?If you want to use synthetic backups, or if you have the prerequisites for off-host backups. NDMP Option
What does it do?Allows you to backup and resore NDMP v.4/NetApp filers. Do you need it?Only if you have NDMP v.4/NetApp filers and want to back them up. Last update : 11-04-2007 19:38
