When you apply a hotfix to your media servers, you often need to also update your remote agents. In practice this sometimes gets missed for various reasons, so how do you determine what version of the remote agent is installed on your servers?

There are at least two ways in which you can determine the version of the remote agent installed:

From Backup Exec

  1. From within Backup Exec, view a selection list (either existing or new, it doesn't matter)
  2. Right-click the server you wish to check, and select properties
  3. The version number of the remote agent (and whether it is installed at all) is listed at the bottom of the properties pane

From Windows Explorer

  1. Open \\servername\c$\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\RAWS\
  2. Right click beremote.exe, and select properties
  3. Select the version tab
