A common problem topic with Backup Exec 10 is Microsoft SQL 2005 compatability. There are two areas where databases come into contact with Backup Exec.
The first of these is Backup Exec's own database. Backup Exec stores most of its data in a database. When you first install Backup Exec, you have the option of installing MSDE (a cut-down version of SQL 2000), which is included with Backup Exec, or using an existing databse server. If you wish to use an existing database server, then SQL 2005 is not supported, and in fact BE will be unable to find the SQL server. For Backup Exec 10's own database, only MSDE and SQL 2000 are supported. The second area is when using Backup Exec to backup SQL databases. Microsoft SQL Server 2000 is supported out of the box. However, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 wasn't released when Backup Exec was released, so support was added at a later date. In order to add this support, you need to install Hotfix 6. This is for Backup Exec 10.1 only. For Backup Exec 10.0 users you'll need to upgrade to 10.1 first. Last update : 14-05-2007 23:36
