Backup Exec System Recovery Option is effectively a feature-reduced version of Backup Exec System Recovery Server Edition. It is installed separately to Backup Exec, and administered separately.
When you apply a hotfix to your media servers, you often need to also update your remote agents. In practice this sometimes gets missed for various reasons, so how do you determine what version of the remote agent is installed on your servers?
It is possible during a disaster recovery that the system being recovered may crash (blue screen) during the restore of the system files component of system state. Upon Windows startup, the error "System error: Lsass.exe. When trying to update a password the return status indicates that the value provided as the current password is not correct." was displayed, before the system rebooted itself.
Restoring data with Backup Exec is (generally) easy. However in some circumstances the way you build your selection lists can drastically affect the amoount of time the restore takes.
If you have your media sets configured correctly, then you will usually find that your backup-to-disk folders remain a constant size. In some circumstances you may need to remove some backup-to-disk files in order to free up some space.
If you are using Backup Exec 11d build 6235, you'll no doubt be aware that build 7170 is available. Why upgrade? What does 7170 offer that 6235 doesn't?
If you backup Exchange to disk using the Granular Restore Technology option (Enable the restore of individual mail messages and folders), you will find your backup-to-disk folder filling up with .IMG files. Regardless of the media set rules you set for your backup, the files are not overwritten, and continue to accumulate until they fill the disk.
If you get the error: "Final error: 0xe0000900 - The requested media is not listed in the media index and could not be mounted. To add the media's catalog information to the disk-based catalogs, run an inventory operation on the media and resubmit the Catalog operation." even though the media has been inventoried, fear not, there is usually a solution.
