Backing up MySQL with Backup Exec

There is no Backup Exec agent for MySQL, so you have to work around it...

With no agent available to backup MySQL directly, you are left with two options:

  1. Use a tool (such as MySQL Administrator) to schedule dumps of the MySQL data to a file. Then back these files up with Backup Exec.
  2. Use the Advanced Open File Option to backup a snaphot of the MySQL files. HOWEVER, my experience of MySQL is that it doesn't cope very well with not having its files closed properly (I've lost data from MySQL before when it died because a volume got full). I haven't tested it in any way shape or form with BE.

If you would like Symantec to add MySQL support to Backup Exec, you can submit an enhancement request.

Do you use the VMWare or HyperV agents in BE 12.5?
